HIGH-QUALITY AND DURABLE DENTAL CROWNS IN RICHMOND

A specialized field of dentistry, prosthodontics is concerned with diagnosing, planning, and executing restorative and cosmetic treatments. A prosthodontist is like an architect, who formulates a comprehensive treatment plan and informs the patient as to what is possible. Missing or defective teeth can be extremely detrimental to self-esteem and self-confidence. Using the latest technology, a prosthodontist is able to fill these gaps with functional, natural-looking teeth that boost confidence and enhance the smile, whether you need dentures, or crowns. Serving the Delta community and nearby areas, Acqua Dental Centre provides high-quality dental services, including treating problems with the jaw (TMJ), alleviating severe snoring, managing sleep apnea, and reconstructing the teeth following oral cancer treatments.

WHY CONSIDER PROSTHODONTICS?

There are many reasons why you might want to consult a prosthodontist, including (but not limited to):

  • Interest in dental implants

  • Creation of partial or full sets of dentures

  • Filling gaps created by one or more missing teeth

  • Desire to whiten the teeth or improve the aesthetics of the smile

CROWNS (CAPS)

A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original size and shape. A crown strengthens and protects tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations. With an array of several types of crowns, porcelain (tooth-coloured crown) is the most popular because they resemble your natural teeth. While highly durable over many years, they may eventually need to be replaced like most dental restoration. Crowns are ideal dental solutions if you have:

  • Decayed, broken, or fractured teeth

  • Fractured or large fillings

  • Tooth with a root canal

DENTAL IMPLANTS

When you are thinking of replacing missing teeth, dental implants are a great, fixed solution compared to having removable partial or complete dentures. Implants provide both excellent support and stability for these dental appliances. Natural looking, dental implants are artificial roots and teeth (usually titanium) that are surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone by a dentist or a periodontist; a specialist of the gums and supporting bone. While they are strong, stable, and durable over many years, on occasion, they will have to be re-tightened or replaced due to normal wear. Some reasons for dental implants include:

  • Restore or enhance facial tissues

  • Restore chewing, speech, and digestion

  • Replace one or more missing teeth without affecting adjacent teeth

  • Support a bridge or denture, making them more secure and comfortable

DENTURES AND PARTIAL DENTURES

A denture is a removable dental appliance replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissue, made to closely resemble your natural teeth. Complete dentures are used when all of the teeth are missing, whereas partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. Additionally, a partial denture not only fills in the spaces created by missing teeth, it prevents other teeth from shifting.

A complete denture may be either immediate or conventional. A conventional type is made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed, which usually takes around 4 to 6 weeks. During this time, you will go without teeth. On the other hand, immediate dentures are made in advance and immediately placed after your teeth are removed, thus preventing you from having to be without teeth during the healing process. Once the tissues shrink and heal, adjustments will have to be made.

See some reasons for dentures, including:

  • Improving chewing, speech, and digestion

  • Complete denture - loss of all teeth in an arch

  • Partial denture - loss of several teeth in an arch

  • Enhancing smile and facial tissues

FIXED BRIDGES

A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance and an excellent way to replace missing teeth is to have a dental bridge. The most popular type is a traditional bridge, usually made of porcelain fused to metal because they resemble your natural teeth. This type of bridge consists of 2 crowns that go over 2 anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached to pontics (artificial teeth), filling the gap created by one or more missing teeth. Even though, dental bridges are highly durable, you may still need replacement or need to the bridge to be re-cemented due to normal wear. Consider a fixed bridge to:

  • Maintain facial shape

  • Fill space of missing teeth

  • Restore chewing and speaking ability

  • Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position

  • Upgrade from a removable partial denture to a permanent dental appliance

PORCELAIN VENEERS

Custom-made (for shape and colour) by a professional dental laboratory, veneers are very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped porcelain, and are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and attractive smile. Often alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating many dental conditions, durable veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. You may someday need replacement from normal wear. You will benefit from porcelain veneers when your teeth are:

  • Misshapen

  • Crooked teeth

  • Worn or chipped

  • Severely discoloured or stained
