COMPOSITE FILLINGS

When your tooth is affected by decay, cracks, or fractures, we use a composite (tooth-coloured) filling to repair it. First, we remove the decayed or affected portion of the tooth, then fill it with a durable composite filling to last many years. Since composite fillings are tooth coloured, they can be closely matched to the colour of your existing teeth, and are more aesthetically suited for use in the more visible areas of your teeth, or in front teeth.

However with most dental restorations, this dental solution is not permanent and may someday have to be replaced. You may want to consider composite fillings if you have:

  • Worn teeth

  • Cracked or broken teeth

  • Chipped teeth

  • Closing space between two teeth

  • Decayed teeth

DAY WHITE®

DENTAL IMPLANTS

When you are thinking of replacing missing teeth, dental implants are a great, fixed solution compared to having removable partial or complete dentures. Implants provide both excellent support and stability for these dental appliances. Natural looking, dental implants are artificial roots and teeth (usually titanium) that are surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone by a dentist or a periodontist; a specialist of the gums and supporting bone. While they are strong, stable, and durable over many years, on occasion, they will have to be re-tightened or replaced due to normal wear. Some reasons for dental implants include:

  • Restore or enhance facial tissues

  • Restore chewing, speech, and digestion

  • Replace one or more missing teeth without affecting adjacent teeth

  • Support a bridge or denture, making them more secure and comfortable

PORCELAIN CROWNS (CAPS)

A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original size and shape. A crown strengthens and protects tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations. With an array of several types of crowns, porcelain (tooth coloured crown) are the most popular because they resemble your natural teeth. While highly durable over many years, they may eventually need to be replaced like most dental restoration. Crowns are ideal dental solutions if you have:

  • Decayed, broken, or fractured teeth

  • Fractured or large fillings

  • Tooth with a root canal

PORCELAIN FIXED BRIDGES

A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance and an excellent way to replace missing teeth. The most popular type is a traditional bridge, usually made of porcelain fused to metal because they resemble your natural teeth. This type of bridge consists of 2 crowns that go over 2 anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached to pontics (artificial teeth), filling the gap created by one or more missing teeth. Even though, dental bridges are highly durable, you may still need replacement or need the bridge to be re-cemented due to normal wear. Consider a fixed bridge to:

  • Maintain facial shape

  • Fill space of missing teeth

  • Restore chewing and speaking ability

  • Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position

  • Upgrade from a removable partial denture to a permanent dental appliance

i Porcelain inlays

PORCELAIN INLAYS

An inlay restoration is a custom-made filling made of composite material, gold, or tooth-coloured porcelain. Porcelain inlays are popular because they resemble your natural tooth and help you maintain your look. A porcelain inlay is made by a professional dental laboratory, and is permanently cemented into the tooth by your dentist. Note that since inlays are not always permanent, you may someday require replacement after a few years. An ideal alternative to conventional silver and composite fillings, they are also more conservative than crowns because less tooth structure is removed in the preparation of inlays. Some reasons for inlay restorations are:

  • Decayed teeth

  • Large or fractured fillings

  • Broken or fractured teeth

  • Cosmetic enhancement

PORCELAIN ONLAYS

Similar to inlay restoration, an onlay restoration is a custom-made filling made of composite material, gold, or tooth-coloured porcelain. Porcelain onlays are popular because they resemble your natural tooth. Permanently cemented onto the tooth by your dentist, an onlay is sometimes also referred to as a partial crown. You can utilize onlays to conservatively repair teeth that have large defective fillings or have been damaged by decay or trauma. Onlays are essentially identical to inlays with the exception that one or more of the chewing cusps have also been affected and need to be included in the restoration. After a few years, since onlays are not always permanent, you may someday require replacement. Here are some reasons for onlay restorations, such as:

  • Cosmetic enhancement

  • Large or fractured fillings

  • Broken, decayed, or fractured teeth

o Porcelain onlays

PORCELAIN VENEERS

Custom-made (for shape and colour) by a professional dental laboratory, veneers are very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped porcelain, and are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and attractive smile. Often alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating many dental conditions, durable veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. You may someday need replacement from normal wear. You will benefit from porcelain veneers when your teeth are:

  • Misshapen

  • Crooked teeth

  • Worn or chipped

  • Severely discoloured or stained

TOOTH WHITENING

An ideal way to enhance the beauty of your smile is with tooth whitening (or bleaching); a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the colour of natural tooth enamel. Among the multitude of ways to whiten teeth, the most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will whiten teeth dramatically. Since tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any of your old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching in order to match the newly bleached teeth later. Tooth whitening being a temporary aesthetic solution. A touch-up maybe needed every several years, and more often especially if you smoke, drink coffee, tea, or wine. Tooth whitening is effective for:

  • Yellow, brown, stained teeth

  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer

  • Fluorosis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development)

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.)
